Edit: 12th March 2025 - in addition to review below: we met friends here for a late lunch today. Once again, the food was very good, and the pub was a lot quieter in terms of people (met at 3.30pm) É“ut it was still difficult to talk due to the loudness of their music playing.....please can you turn it down a little ? Not been here for many years. We did try ringing for about half an hour before leaving home to check they were open, but got no answer. Took a chance and went, to realise upon arrival it was simply really busy and not enough front of house staff. One guy behind the bar (serving drinks and taking food orders) and two girls running around bringing out food and clearing tables. Need more staff at lunchtime if its like that every day. Thankfully, the food was excellent and worth the wait. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and would definitely go again....just after the lunchtime rush next time (we left at about 3pm and it had quietened down by then). Only small complaint was the peas were still a bit too hard. Total bill was ÂŁ48 for the 3 meals and a soft drink each....no starters/desserts...and we left stuffed.
We arrived here was quickly shown our seats . And we made our order as there was alot of us . Food arrived we were amazed how the food all arrived at the same time . To say the food was fantastic that is no exaggeration will definitely be back soon definitely. Thank you and well done to a great team of staff. Kim x
If you don't book for a Sunday roast then get there for midday !! Fabulous choice of veg, 4 meats. ÂŁ12.50. Large venue. Large menu for midweek. Only had the roast so can't comment on rest. But roast was fantastic. You can always get the water taxi over from the Barbican if you don't want to drive.
This is a great gem on the coast. Perfect to stop in after a long day outdoors or perhaps make a special trip by car or over the water taxi. The drinks are all great tasting, although slightly higher than average price I feel. But then again, this is not a Wetherspoons so you cant expect those rock bottom prices. The food is genuinely nice, and has a proper home cooked pub grub feel.

We like the Mountbatten Bar, it's a busy pub but we rarely struggle to get a table. We like the menu because it offers some options that are different to the usual pub fayre, there's something for everyone and at very reasonable prices too. The pub is dog friendly which is nice and there is easy disabled access from the car park down a shallow slope. There's good free parking with 4 disabled bays. There is EV charging in a nearby car park and public toilets too. There are some great views of the Hoe and the Barbican which with the Mountbatten jetty make for a nice stroll with the dog after lunch. Definitely recommended.
